About

Preserving Our Past. Celebrating Our Community.

The Belfast Historical Society is dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history of Belfast, Prince Edward Island, while celebrating the culture, traditions and community spirit that make this place special.

Our story is deeply connected to the Scottish Highlanders who arrived aboard the Polly in August 1803. Leaving behind their homes on the Isle of Skye and elsewhere in Scotland, these early settlers brought with them their language, customs, music, traditions and determination to build a new life.

More than two centuries later, that Scottish heritage remains an important part of Belfast’s identity.

Through historical preservation, educational activities, community events and cultural celebrations, the Belfast Historical Society helps keep these stories alive.

We are equally passionate about making new history. Belfast continues to grow and evolve as new people arrive, bringing their own stories, experiences and traditions to our community.

Our work is about more than remembering where we came from. It’s about creating connections, celebrating who we are and welcoming everyone who will help shape Belfast’s future.
